SU81 Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony

We hold an annual SU Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony in the late spring.

Girls can bridge at this ceremony and still have a troop ceremony/celebration so they can celebrate with the SU and their troops.

Girls who earned their Bronze, Silver or Gold awards during the year will be honored at this event.

This event is free, local, short and fun! Come celebrate with other girls even if you are not getting an award or bridging. Families are welcome, as are individual scouts, even if the troop is not attending. There will be a short ceremony with a dessert reception afterwards, so we ask each troop or family attending to bring a dessert to share.

Look for information on this event each spring.

We haves six adult awards in our service unit to recognize the great effort of our volunteers and support organizations.  Awards are presented at the annual Leader Dinner event in early June unless the sponsor requests to present the award another way. Nominations for awards are taken each spring via Google forms.  Below are descriptions of the awards:

1)  Certificate of Appreciation - Any leader or parent can nominate a person or an organization for a Certificate of Appreciation.  The person does not need to be a registered Girl Scout and can be male or female.  The organization can be any that you and/or your troop have worked with during the current year to roll out your programs, support your achievements or provide mentorship to the girls or troop parents. The award is a certificate.

2) Green Angel - is for a female recipient.  Any leader or parent can nominate a female for this award.  She does not need to be a registered Girl Scout.  She can be any girl/woman who you and/or your troop has worked with during the current year to roll out your programs, support your achievements or provide mentorship to the girls or troop parents.  The award is a certificate and pin.

3) Green Knight - is for a male recipient.  Any leader or parent can nominate a male for this award.  He does not need to be a registered Girl Scout.  He can be any boy/man who you and/or your troop has worked with during the current year to roll out your programs, support your achievements or provide mentorship to the girls or troop parents.  The award is a certificate and pin.

4) The Dawn Award - Any leader can nominate a leader for the Dawn Award, also recognized as the SU81 Leader of the Year Award.  Only leaders can nominate a person for this award and only one of these will be presented per year.  The recipient of this award must be a registered leader.  This should be awarded to a leader who goes above and beyond being a great leader and really lives the Girl Scout Law.  If more than one person is nominated, the SU Team will vote and the person with the most votes will be honored. If the voting is a tie, it will result in more than one recipient.  The award is named after a beloved leader and SU team member who lost her battle with cancer in 2007.  The award is a certificate and plaque or vase.

5)  Outstanding Community Service Award - introduced in 2014 - is awarded by the SU Team to all leaders who are graduating their troop to Adult scouts at the end of the scouting year.  The award is a certificate and pin.

6) Dedicated Leader Award - introduced in 2017 - recognized a leader who has performed continuing service for more than one year that benefits girls in the Service Unit, not just their own troop. The award is a certificate and pin.
